Christmas Is Over

Merry Merry Christmas to All! And a Happy Happy New Year =)

So Christmas is over now, how did you spend yours? With your loved one, or with your family members. Some will be spending the whole day in their church! For me, I choose to go out for a fine dining at a Japanese Restaurant. Choosing the restaurant was not easy as I am looking for a place which serve quality Japanese food and it must not be crowded! Sound almost impossible to do that especially in Christmas day where everywhere is pack.

Lucky for me, I found this place call Honjin Japanese Restaurant at Chow House Robinson Road. This restaurant locate at the heart of Singapore busiest central district Shenton Way. So everyone will be trying to rush out of this here to celebrate their Christmas, while we decided to “get in”.

Packing spaces were everywhere, have no trouble at all! Make a reservation at 6pm the earliest while we still have 1 hour to roam around the dead town! Yes, really dead town, no cars, no people. Only seeing people rushing for cab and bus to get out of the place.

Anyway, Honjun Japanese food was great. No regret trying especially my favorite Salmon Sashimi. Negative review, it is rather expensive but if you are a big eater, I guess it is still justifiable. Luckily they have a promotion that day where lady is half price, which reduce the total bills from $45 plus to $35 plus per head! So I still enjoy, we spend about 2 hour plus inside before we decided to head for somewhere else.

Decided to have a walk nearby before heading home! Christmas is never a day that I will go town. It is too crowded and especially in Orchard and town area. Nowadays the crowd no longer make up majority of Singaporean, you know what I mean. I have no issues with them but they can be rather roundy at time. Anyway I still enjoy shopping and walking around when everyone is working, that is the privilege of my work!

Anyway I also bought some interesting books and magazines, will share with you guys in my next posting! Got some picutre taken using my darling new camera. But I have reduce the size for uploading. So the quality no as good anymore. Anyway still a good phone, camera is so much better than my O2Atom which sux big time. Anyway her phone is Sony Ericsson K810i.

Guess where is this place? A bridge behind me?

Posted by Jack Lan on 26 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Jack's Life

Signed up PayPerPost (PPP) very long ago, but too me sometime before I decided to go deep into it and explore it further. Now after studying the whole platform, I find PayPerPost such an amazing platform for blogger who love to write, who want to monetize their blog and who is lazy.

Why for blogger who love to write? There are tons of opportunities for blogger to engage from all type of industries. So you hardly will not find related opportunities to write about. Thus, this make it a very lucrative monetization platform. Of course PayPerPost also provide fantastic tools for affiliate recruitment. Their tools don’t only include the standard links, banners and buttons. Payperpost make an effort to come up with custom sign up form which you can place in your blog, button to place below all your posts and get your readers to reviews your post, guess what you will be paid $7.50 for that! These tools making blogger who is very lazy to do review and write more than what they should write very easy to make extra cash.

Of course if you are and advertiser and looking for blog ads space, you can search their marketplace and look for thousands of bloggers to write review for you, this will create thousands of back links and thus increase your overall page ranking.

So how much are people earning with PayPerPost?

The Philosophy of Fair Play

Posted by Jack Lan on 04 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Jack's Life

Later I will be taking a short test for my National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP) Level 1 exam. Therefore I am doing my last minute studying now at the same time wanting to share with you guys some of the interesting topics that we actually went through.

As a coach, we have many role to play and numerous task to perform. As a beginner coach, we have tremendous overall responsibility to instil in participants lifetime values of sportmanship and fair play. Of course the ability for us to instill these values depends on some factor like how well we understand and adhere to the values of fair play, how well we understand participants’ reasons for being in sport and how well we understand various approaches to coaching. Once we understand these factor, we can better understand our own approach in coaching. In particular, we can see how our approach affect our day to day coaching and how our approach can change from one situation to another and on time to another.

So what is fair play? What is the different between sportmanship and fairplay?

Fair play is a philosophy of coaching. It is grouded in the belief that sport is a moral pursuit and it emphasizes participation.

Underlying the fair-play philosophy are certain principles. These prinicples have as their aim the development of a true competitive spirit, true sportmanship. The fair play philosophy emphasizes the following:

  • respecting the rules of the game
  • respecting officials and acepting their decisions
  • respecting the opponent
  • providing all participants with equal opportunities
  • maintaining dignity under all circumstances

These principle apply to all circumstances and they apply to everyone in sport, participants, officials, parants, sponsors etc.

F air play philosophy has both general and specific implication for us a coach. The general implication consist of the overall steps you need to take to promote the fair play philosophy.

The specific implications of fair play include the need to foster in participants both a constructive approach to competition and a positive self-image.

Following are some general implication of the fair play philosophy:

  • emphasize that the pursuit of excellence is an important goal in and of itself
  • behave the way I want participants and spectators to
  • Encourage participants to respect both the letter and the spirit of the game
  • actively encourage participants to respect officials and other competitors. Point out that competitors are co-operating by competing that there would be NO GAME without them
  • Emphasize the participating and doing one’s best are more important than winning and losing. The quality of the sport experience is more important than who wins or loses.
  • Remember that all participants are special and important in their own way and should be treated with respect and dignity
  • point out that sport is one aspect of life
  • let participants choose the priotity they give to perforance. then listen to what they say and adjust our expectation and programs accordingly

I guess the above sets of philosophy and principles not only apply to all sport coaches, but to all leaders, manager, influence speaker, teacher and trainers as well. So  lets do our part and up hold this spirit of fair play!

Completed My Third Marathon

Posted by Jack Lan on 02 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: Jack's Life

Now I am walking with lots of pains from my lower limbs. But all these pains are worth it because behind all these pains and struggles are great perseverance and sweaty trainings.

Woke up at 4am and took my final preparation (eat my banana and of course the usual water parade) before I headed down to Suntec where the start point was. Started my race with CJ 30 minutes after flag off. Our start off was very motivating as the start point was almost cleared and the cheer leading supporters at the side started to cheers like crazy for us. Both of us felt like WORLD CHAMPION, a winner with everyone cheering for our victory for that few minutes. The feeling was fantastic and unforgettable.

This year, I decided to change my running strategy. In the past few years, I would run to the maximum distances until my legs gave way. This running strategy is one of the most foolish way to run, especially for runner who didn’t really prepare for the race. Most of the time, the runner will be limping back to finishing point. So this year, I decided to do the ” Run & Walk” strategy. The objective was to complete the whole race in 5h30 min where I would be running the first 15Km and walk the next 5 km and run the next 10km, leaving the last 12km to be accessed on the actual situation than.

We managed to complete the first 23 km as plan before we started to walk the reminding at short intervals. After 30km, our pains were only increasing and our strength was getting lesser, good news was our determination was getting stronger and stronger. Along the way, I decided to adopt a new strategy for the next 12km which worked really well eventhough it didn’t last long. The strategy was to slow job for 5minutes and walk for 5 minutes. Each set will cover about 1km. This strategy successful bring us forward until 38km before our legs start to give way again. Time check! We would not be able to complete our goal to finish the race in 5h 30min. At 5 h 30 minutes, we reached in time at the 40km sign post. Both of us decided to walk all the way back so that we would complete the last stretch “beautifully”!

According to my watch, my timing show about 5h 45min when we crossed the finishing line. This year finishing was the most beautiful. The previous years I either finished off limping terribly or my leg give way straight after the finishing line where the medic had to carry me to the side. I am very happy with my performance and timing for this year. This prove again planning was necessary for a greater and more comfortable run. In fact, my timing is better even I walk longer distances.

Collected my finisher T-shirt which is rather disappointing, first it is the same design, second I am expecting a change in colour, white colour will be great! Nice medal, nice finishing, rather shining too!

Marathon is a race for me to complete and also to lose some stubborn fats. Will be starting my IPPT training in 5 days time! Will work out a plan with CJ, Commando Silver is our target!

Time to sleep, got to start working for my project tomorrow again! Tuesday will be my test for my national coaching course! Busy busy busy!

Lets celebrate with me for another marathon completion!
